NetFlix Review Summary:

Netflix is by far the largest online movie rental service available today. With 98% market share, it currently has over 2 million subscribers. Rightfully so. I have personally used Netflix for the past 6 months and have yet to experience a problem. With over 25,000 titles to choose from, you'll be hard pressed to come across a movie that Netflix does not have. The movie search/browse interface is extremely easy to use and is very clean and professional. It even has a personalized 'Recommentaions' area, where movies are recommended to you based on your ratings of previously viewed movies. Netflix offers multiple professional critic reviews, top 100 lists, and critic's picks. You can search for movies based on several criteria such as movie title, actor/director names, movie studio, genre, etc. Netflix has more than 25 distribution centers nationwide to ensure fast shipping. Normally it takes 1-3 days to get your movie from the time you add it to your queue.

DVDAvenue Review Summary:

DVD Avenue is an excellent online DVD rental service. Tthe only things that keep it out of the top 2, are title selection and shipping. At 10,000 titles, DVD Avenue has less than half the selection as NetFlix. But if you are not into rare, hard to find titles, then that shouldn't be a problem. The other issue is shipping. DVD Avenue currently only has 1 distribution center which is in Maryland, so unless you are on or near the east coast, shipping times may be unacceptable to you. On the bright side, DVD Avenue offers an outstanding and easy to use search/browse interface with several categories including several genres, New Releases, Academy Awards, AFI Top 100, Coming Soon, Television, PS2, XBOX, and an advanced search with criteria for title, actor, director, genre, MPAA rating, genre, and category. If you live on or near near the east coast and would like to option of renting video games, and/or adult movies, DVD Avenue might be the choice for you.

BlockBuster Review Summary:

Blockbuster is the Goliath of the movie rental business. With more than 25,000 titles to choose from, the only company that is on par with their inventory selection is Netflix. However, Blockbuster is still in it's infancy as far as online DVD rental services are concerned. The movie search/browse interface isn't quite as impressive as some of the above services. They do, however, offer movie ratings and a personalized rating system similar to that of Netflix. Blockbuster currently has 10 distribution centers, but we expect them to expand quickly.
